Box Score The Strike Force won the one-sided affair versus the winless Duke City Gladiators 21-47 at Pechanga Arena. San Diego improved to 5-3 on the year and third place in the Western Conference.
The Gladiators capped off the opening drive with a touchdown run by quarterback Joe Mancusco. After recovering the ensuing onside kick, Duke City was held to a field goal attempt that was blocked by San Diego and returned for extra yardage by defensive back
Justic'e King. One play later, Strike Force quarterback Davis found
Elijah Lilly for a 28-yard touchdown. King would once get involved before the first quarter was complete as he intercepted the first of four total interceptions the Strike Force would record on the night.
The two teams traded scores to open the second quarter as former San Diego State running back
Chance Bell capped off a 45-yard drive. After a four-play drive by the Gladiators to retake the lead at 14-12, San Diego's
Travon Van returned the favor in his first game back after a stint on the short-term injured reserve list. On the ensuing possession, Duke City's Joe Mancuso tried to shrug off a Strike Force linebacker and attempted a dump pass to a receive in the flat, but was intercepted by San Diego defensive back
Tariq Thompson who would return it 25 yards for the Strike Force touchdown. The Gladiators would put together a nine-play drive to trim the San Diego lead to 27-21 as the Strike Force weren't unable to find the endzone on their final possession of the half.
The pace of the game slowed in the second half. San Diego would only find the endzone once in the third quarter via a four-yard run by
Nate Davis while Duke City would give up possession on downs and then fail to convert on a field goal attempt. In the final quarter of play, the offensive woes continued for the Gladiators as they gave up two more interceptions to the Strike Force and fumbled on their final possession.
Nate Davis, on the other hand, connected on touchdown passes to
Jordan Kress and
Elijah Lilly to help San Diego to a 47-21 win.
