Box Score The Strike Force lost a heart-breaker to the Frisco Fighters on Sunday at home by a score of 44-41.
A furious comeback was complete by the home side, only for the Strike Force to ultimately fall by the special teams sword.
San Diego had the ball at their own 5 yard-line, trailing 37-34 with 1:21 left in regulation after a touchdown saving interception by DB Tariq Thompson. A drive to take the lead was capped off with a two-yard score by RB Rudy Johnson with 18 seconds to go.
41-37 Strike Force. Then, disaster.
Fighters WR Lionell McConnell returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown and Frisco was back in front.
A field goal try for the Strike Force missed wide right as time expired.
The final score was far from the full story of this game.
MISTAKES AND MISSED OPPORTUNITIES
One step forward and two steps back was how this game went for the Strike Force. Throwing an interception on the first play after the defense had forced an interception of their own. Two consecutive turnovers on the opponent's side of the field to close out the first half.
Losing the field position battle with kicks out of bounds and a botched snap, a missed PAT and costly penalties. The Strike Force had plenty of chances in this game even before the last 90 seconds.
QB 1
Frisco QB Tripp Harrington started the year as the backup on the team. He didn't play like a backup on Sunday. Harrington scored four touchdowns in the game (3 rush, 1 pass) and ran the ball 15 times for a total of63 yards.
SPECIAL PLAY ON SPECIAL TEAMS
WR Elijah Lilly brought Pechanga Arena to life with a 57-yard kickoff return for a touchdown early in the 4th quarter. The play started the pandemonium in the final stanza and brought the Strike Force within three at the time.
